Project Scope
Furnished all craft labor, supervision and materials to remove existing gravel built up roof system. Replaced with liquid membrane system at six separate roofs with a total of 80,000 sq. ft., replaced 26 gravity vents and all of the flashing.

Project Description
There were six different roofs within the scope of this project. The old existing material needed to be removed and the roof needed to be maintained watertight daily as the project proceeded. The existing roofing material contained asbestos. The material had to be kept wet while removal was in progress. All material had to be double bagged and placed into asbestos containers for disposal. A 130 ton crane was utilized along with two skid pans to lower old material from the roofs and to lift new material.

  • New roofing system installed included:
    • Self stick vapor barrier
    • 1.5” of insulation
    • .5” of hard board
    • Three coats of liquid applied membrane
      • 1st coat – 45 mils with fabric embedded
      • 2nd coalt – 30 mils
      • 3rd coat – 30 mils
      • Non-skid areas were installed per the design package
  • 26 gravity vents were replaced as part of the scope. A dropped object plan was developed to protect plant equipment and personnel.
  • All existing drain covers were replaced with new.
  • Installed approximately 1600 lineal feet of new stainless steel flashing
  • All roof drains were tested for functionality

Challenges

  • Existing roof contained asbestos
  • Not exceeding maximum re-coat times between coats of liquid membrane.
